President Hichilema Reaffirms Zambia’s Commitment to Investment Partnerships and Global Cooperation

Zambia Open to Deeper Investment Partnerships, President Hichilema Tells Diplomatic Corps

President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, has reaffirmed the country’s readiness to deepen investment partnerships and strengthen collaboration with like-minded nations for mutual benefit.

The President made the remarks on 29 January 2026 during the Presidential Annual Greeting of the Diplomatic Corps, where he expressed appreciation for the longstanding and cordial relations Zambia continues to enjoy with members of the diplomatic community.

President Hichilema identified agriculture, mining, technology and trade as priority sectors for mutually beneficial investment, noting that Zambia remains open to partnerships that support sustainable economic growth and national development.

Looking ahead, the Head of State emphasised that peace, security, stability and economic diplomacy will remain the cornerstone of Zambia’s international engagement, in line with the country’s foreign policy.

He stressed that peace is the foundation upon which sustained investment and long-term development are built.

The President also called on African diplomats to actively promote increased intra-African trade as a means of unlocking the continent’s vast economic potential.

He clarified that stronger continental trade does not preclude engagement with other regions, but rather strengthens Africa’s position in global commerce.

On matters of global governance, President Hichilema reiterated Zambia’s call for reform of the United Nations Security Council to ensure Africa’s fair representation, enabling the continent to more effectively articulate and safeguard its interests.

He further appealed for continued support from multilateral organisations in amplifying Africa’s voice on the international stage.

Addressing Zambia’s democratic credentials, the President assured the Diplomatic Corps that the country will hold free, fair and credible elections this year.

He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to peace, the rule of law and ongoing legal reforms aimed at promoting equality and justice.

Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Rodney Sikumba, MP, described the Presidential Annual Greeting of the Diplomatic Corps as a hallmark of Zambia’s enduring commitment to diplomacy, dialogue and international cooperation.

He noted that the event reflects the high value placed by both Government and citizens on strong international relations.

Speaking on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, Her Excellency Ms Hawa Hassan Mohamed, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Zambia and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, commended Zambia for its peaceful and stable environment, which she said provides a strong foundation for investment, cooperation and diplomatic engagement.
